Simon Princess (Ex. Grampian Pioneer, Standby Pioneer) was originally used as a standby vessel in the Nort Sea flying the British flag. In 2015 she was bought by us, underwent a complete renewal, and was equipped with Thermolicer fish treatment plant. Since entering operation in 2016 Simon Princess have treated 300 million salmon in the Norwegian, Scottish and Irish fish farming industry. Experiencing good efficiency and most important, experiencing good fish-welfare. The vessel is set up with arrangement both for delicing between cages and the possibility to return the fish to the loading cage.
Thermolicer
Thermolicer is a fish- and environmentally friendly process for removing sea-lice from salmon and trout.
The process does not contain or release any chemicals or expose the fish to brushes, pressure or jet-nozzles. The fish is pumped from the pen and circles through a loop containing water which is heated to a temperature which makes the lice loose grip of the fish, while at the same time not causing injuries to the fish. It is not the temperature itself that makes the lice loose the grip, but the difference in between sea temperature and treatment temperature. Hence treatment temperatures are kept and good results are achieved, well within fish welfare considerations and system capacity.
One of the success factors of the installation on the Simon Princess is the placement of the vacuum system below waterline, creating reduced height differences in the system resulting in reduced stress on the fish.
